Chicago producer Eric "E-Smoove" Miller and his Focus Music Group label
have filed a 10-million-dollar countersuit against Kanye West. The suit
is regarding tracks KanYe allegedly produced before he was 18. In
August, Kanye filed his lawsuit, claiming Miller and Focus forged his
signature during an attempt to sell the tracks. Miller -- who alleges
Kanye worked as an associate producer with Focus, recorded the tracks
after his 18th birthday and signed their rights away to F-M-G –and is
suing for the right to use the beats, in addition to monetary damages.

The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) has filed a formal complaint against Sean “Diddy” Combs with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) claiming the mogul’s support of John Kerry for President may have violated the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) and the Internal Revenue Service Code.

Peter Flaherty, President of The NLPC, references two rallies staged by Diddy and his non-profit group Citizen Change where such partisan politics took place, including an Oct. 26, 2004 event in Detroit during which Leonardo DiCaprio and Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick urged the crowd to vote for Kerry.

The Complaint states that Citizen Change’s address was listed as the same as Diddy’s business address and alleges that Diddy could have used his company’s corporate funds to illegally support Citizen Change’s activities.

The NLPC wants the FEC to find out if Diddy used his Vote or Die campaign to advance “commercial activity, namely Combs' line of clothing and/or his clothing company.”

Aaron McGruder's comic strip about two brothers, 10 year-old Huey
and 8-year-old Riley Freeman, centers on their being moved out of
Chicago's South Side and into the bucolic suburban setting of
Woodcrest -- "The Boondocks" -- with their cantankerous "Granddad,"
Robert Freeman.

The strip, and now the series, sets up a world where old and new
schools collide, white and black perspectives clash, and race and
class are never out of mind. But lost in the din of McGruder's
politics and fierce skewering of black and white pop and political
figures is a touching coming-of-age story with enough warmth to
melt many of the sharp -- and hilarious -- edges.

Right out of the gate, "The Boondocks" is a water-cooler series that
lives up to the hype. It is funny, fearless and continues the vibe of
the strip -- Huey forever let down by the antics of his black
brethren, the president and white people in general, and Riley,
mostly the opposite, an 8-year-old with less of a furrowed-brow,
worry-about-the-world outlook than his brother.

Be forewarned, this show is not for those that get easily offended.
It takes potshots at everyone and Richard Pryor-type humor and
language though out.

The Mecca Brings Mayhem to the City

Friday, October 14th, marked the beginning of Howard University's
acclaimed homecoming festivities: an event African-American men and
women around the country look forward to each year. Howard is known
for hosting the best parties, having the hottest artists and
celebrity guests, and the remarkable comradery among its students
and alumni. Unfortunately, the long-awaited week of excitement ended
with a bang: literally.

While the homecoming events, hosted by the Homecoming Steering
Committee, met with great success, from the pageant to the ever-
popular fashion show and yardfest, the social activities, extending
outside of the University, left many students in shock, despair and
disarray. Many entertainment companies were hosting events with
celebrity guests-Mark and Taz, with Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and Usher,
Hypnotik Entertainment, in conjunction with the Usual Suspectz, with
Jadakiss, and LGI Entertainment, in conjunction with Mad Power Unit,
with Dipset. One such event drew such an overwhelmingly large crowd
that attendees were trampled in the process of trying to enter the
club. Some even wound up injured.

LGI Entertainment in conjunction with Mad Power Unit, threw their
second annual, after hours, step show after-party, on Saturday,
hosted by the brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
As was the case last year, the party drew an exceedingly large
crowd. It took place at one of DC's hottest nightclubs, Fur
Nightclub. But what many hoped would be a great celebration for the
defending step-show champions, turned out to be a stifling mob of
anxious party-goers.

Gena George, a senior film production major, from Atlanta, Ga. was
one of the thousands of people seeking entry into Fur
Nightclub. "You would think that Howard, being one of the best
HBCU's in the country, and holding such a revered event as the step-
show, would have been better prepared for the magnitude of people
coming to the club," George said. "I feel bad for the people that
were trampled, but what did the people throwing the party expect
when they gathered thousands of people, probably already intoxicated
by 2am, in a small alley behind a club, with minimal security?"

Another disheartening event, which took place during the week's
activities, was the multiple robberies. Many Howard University
students found it dangerous to step outside of their homes and
respective dorms to participate in any festivities, for fear of
being robbed. There were an estimated total 20 robberies
surrounding Howard University, during the weekend alone.

Michael Arceneaux, a senior print journalism major, from Houston,
Texas shared his experience. "My friend and I were leaving Love
Nightclub, Friday night when, as we were getting out of the car, we
were surprised my two men, both holding guns to our head," Arceneaux
said. "They took my digital camera, wallet, along with my friend's
cell phone."

It's very sad when students are fearful of their lives, by simply
living them. One would hope that during such a popular event as
Howard University's homecoming that the University, along with the
Metropolitan Police Department, would have taken the proper
precautions-providing extra security around the clubs, monitoring
highly concentrated streets, posting patrol cars along Georgia Ave.,
etc. Many students are suffering from this mere lack of concise
judgment. It seems that the mayhem not only affected students and
alumni attending the various homecoming festivities, but also
celebrity guests who came to partake in the fun.

Cam'Ron, CEO of Diplomat Records, was shot around 2:10, Sunday
morning as he was leaving H20 Nightclub and Restaurant, en route to
Love Nightclub. According to eye witnesses, three males attempted to
car jack the artist, known as "Killa Cam," for his blue Lamborghini.
When Cam'ron refused to comply, the assaulters began to fire
multiple shots at the vehicle, which he was in. Reports from 2
Metropolitan Police Officers, who wish to remain anonymous, say that
the artist was shot at least two times, once in each arm. Cam'ron
was sent to Howard University Hospital, where he was met by fellow
Dipset members, Juelz Santana and Jim Jones. According to his
publicist, at Susan Blond, he is doing well and looking forward to a
quick recovery.

"DC is steadily building upon its bad reputation, and Howard is
beginning to become associated with all this negativity," said Aura
Harewood, a Howard alumna. "Homecoming changes year by year. It
seems almost impossible for grown men and women to go out and have a
nice time, without unecessary drama, these days."

Homecoming 2005, at Howard University, was a memorable one, indeed,
but for all the wrong reasons. From shootings to robberies, a dark
cloud overshadowed much of the hard work put into making this year's
homecoming a reminiscent one. Hopefully this will serve as a pivotal
adjustment in the planning, judgment and responsibility of
University officials, students, alumni, and future homecoming
attendees. Until next year, chill out and be safe.

R.I.P Rosa Parks

(CNN) -- Rosa Parks, who helped trigger the civil rights movement in the 1950s, died Monday, her longtime friends told CNN. She was 92.
Parks inspired the civil rights movement when she refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama, in December 1955.
Her arrest triggered a 381-day boycott of the bus system by blacks that was organized by a young Baptist preacher, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and led to a court ruling desegregating public transportation in Montgomery.
Parks, a seamstress, facing regular threats and having lost her job, moved from Alabama to Michigan in 1957.
She joined the staff of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, a Michigan Democrat, in 1965, championing civil liberties. Parks later earned the Presidential Medal of Freedom and Congressional Gold Medal.
Conyers, who first met Parks during the early days of the civil rights struggle, said Parks died in Detroit Monday evening.
"I think that she, as the mother of the new civil rights movement, has left an impact not just on the nation, but on the world," he told CNN in a telephone interview. "She was a real apostle of the non-violence movement."
Conyers said Parks worked on his original congressional staff when he first was elected to the House of Representatives in 1964.
He remembered her as someone who never raised her voice -- an eloquent voice of the civil rights movement.
"You treated her with deference because she was so quiet, so serene -- just a very special person," he said, adding that "there was only one" Rosa Parks.
Gregory Reed, a longtime friend and attorney, said Parks died between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. of natural causes. He called Parks "a lady of great courage."
Parks was the subject of the documentary "Mighty Times: The Legacy of Rosa Parks," which received a 2002 Oscar nomination for best documentary short.
In April, Parks and rap duo OutKast settled a lawsuit over the use of her name on a CD released in 1998.

Rapper Cam'Ron Shot

Superstar rapper Cam’ron was shot three times in Washington, DC this morning (Oct. 23) sources have revealed to AllHipHop.com.

The Harlem, New York native was leaving club H20 en-route to Love (formerly Dream) when three unknown gunmen approached the rapper.

While details are sketchy, eyewitnesses said the men were seeking the rapper’s pricey Lamborghini, which he was driving while in town for a performance over the weekend.

“They were after that car,” an eyewitness told AllHipHop.com. “Cam refused to give it up and attempted to drive away and they shot up the car.”

Cam’ron was struck three times and while officials have not released his actual status, sources said at least one bullet struck the rapper in the arm.

His injures are allegedly not life threatening and the rapper was treated at Howard University Hospital.

“Juelz, Jim [Jones] and other Dip-Set members are with him at the hospital right now,” the source said.

Cam’ron, CEO of Diplomat Records, has been driving the blue Lamborghini since at least June of 2005.

"I bought the Lamborghini especially for New York," Cam'ron told a 106 & Park audience prior to being arrested. “Because we figure that we can only see stuff like this in Miami, but I am bringing it to the streets of New York."

In July, police in Harlem stopped the rapper and arrested him while driving the Italian sports car for driving with a suspended license.

Officials at Howard University Hospital declined comment and police did not comment at press time.

Straight, No Chaser Productions, a Washington, DC-based writing collective and film production company, has recently won the 2nd Annual Rap-It-Up/Black AIDS Short Subject Film Competition for their screenplay, "Multitude of Mercies". This innovative screenplay depicts the story of a young Black minister and the struggles he faces while dealing with HIV/AIDS in his church. This film is set to air on BET on or around World AIDS Day.

Straight, No Chaser Productions in association with Big Belly Productions will begin filming for this project in early October and we are seeking actors, actresses, and singers who are not only willing to work under high-pressure time constraints, but are also committed to making positive changes within their community.

If you have an MP3 player, you are invited to DJ at Cafe Saint-Ex on September 14.

On the second Wednesday of every month, The Cricklewood Massive presents "iPod Jukebox," an open-decks DJ night that replaces the turntables with portable MP3 players. No vinyl. No CDs. No kidding.

The format is simple: Aspiring MP3Js sign up for a timeslot. When it's your turn, you plug your iPod (or other portable MP3 device) into the bar's sound system and play whatever you want for up to 12 minutes. This is intended to be a night where everyone can show off their favorite gems from their own record collection, whether a hot new underground band or an old-school Madonna tune. iPod Jukebox debuted at Arlington's Galaxy Hut in April 2004, drawing more than a dozen MP3Js and a rave review from Washington Post technology columnist Rob Pegoraro. It moved to Cafe Saint-Ex's Gate 54 Lounge in June, attracting an even larger crowd, and became a regular event on the bar's schedule.

iPod Jukebox usually runs from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., although MP3Js can arrive earlier to sign up for a timeslot. Admission is free.

Trivia Night-Katrina Charity Event-Crystal City Sports Pub

This Tuesday Night (8:30 pm), we'll be running our usual trivia at the Crystal City Sports Pub (http://www.crystalcitysportspub.com/), but I will also be collecting money to donate to the Red Cross for victims of Hurricane Katrina. I think we've all seen how bad this has gotten with not only the storm itself, but it's after affects as well. I will be donating my nightly fee that I get for running trivia to the Red Cross. I urge people to donate what they can. Even five dollars can make a difference in our fellow Americans’ lives.

I will be putting out a jar on Tuesday for anyone who wants to donate money. I'll take the money we collect and write a check to the Red Cross. Feel free to bring checks made out to the Red Cross which I can mail along with mine.

If anyone else has any other ideas let me know. I was thinking we could do a raffle or silent auction (or with our crowd, a not so silent auction.) Perhaps someone who works for a store, restaurant, massage place etc... can donate something nice like a gift certificate. I was thinking I could raffle off a guaranteed table for the following week’s trivia or even the question of the week for one team only. Perhaps we can get the bar to raffle off gift certificates etc…

The Miss Black USA 2005 Scholarship Pageant is just a few weeks away and we need your help to make this event an even bigger success. In addition to the 25 delegates that will represent their respective states, we are also looking for three lucky ladies to become queens for the day. There will be a "Queen for the Day" winner chosen to represent the District of Columbia, one to represent the state of Maryland, and one to represent the state of Virginia.

The three contest winners will be chosen based upon their outstanding contributions to their communities in support of education. In addition to a full-day of spa pampering, the winners will also serve as guest celebrity judges along with four-time boxing Heavyweight Boxing Champion Evander Holyfield, Actor/Comedienne, and from "Proud Family," Tommy Davidson, and Creator and Executive Producer, top-ranked UPN "Eve", Meg DeLoatch for the final night of the Pageant on Sunday, August 7, 2005.
