OPEN MIC * * * * * * * * * *
HOSTED BY TAMU, 11-12

MoCo's very own Unusual Suspects have been hitting the DC/MD/VA hip hop scene hard for the past three years to say the least. Though known for their high energy shows and unbelievably tight freestyle abilities, their studio and improvisational skills are not to be taken lightly either! Made up of Blest, CM Dislexsick, Copeasetic, and Scudmisstle, The U.S. have been absolutely killing stages on an almost weekly basis while constantly elevating the bar for DC hip-hop. You've caught the crew at Blest's open mic weekly in Bethesda, or even opening for Afu Ra. If you still haven't heard them for yourself, do not miss this Friday's Krunk as we proudly host personal favorites, THE UNUSUAL SUSPECTS.

Whether Baltimore club or classic hip-hop, TITTSWORTH always sets his mind to keeping the dance floor as lit as his liver. Never stopping the rapid mix, except for maybe a shot, this beat guru draws from an extensive library of tempo varying tracks that guarantees Krunk lives up to its name! Expect the best in dance friendly hip-hop, club, 80's and more!

Say it, don't spray it. Things to bring: your wit, off-the-top rhymes, positive attitudes, sharp lyrical ability and mic control. Things to leave at home: stank breath, written or memorized content, thuggish ruggish attitudes and yo mama. Open mic from 11-12, expertly hosted by TAMU.

Joss Stone first garnered mainstream attention with 2003's breakout hit "Fell in Love with a Boy" from the multi-million selling album "The Soul Sessions". Since then she has become the new Gap spokesmodel, performed on "The Tonight Show" and had her songs included in the soundtracks of such shows as "The West Wing", "ER", and "Third Watch". Stone has just released her new CD, the critically acclaimed "Mind, Body, Soul". For videos, songs and more visit www.jossstone.com.

John Legend's debut CD, "Get Lifted" offered a brilliant blend of old school soul with modern hip-hop and R&B. Produced by Kayne West, "Get Lifted" earned Legend favorable comparisons to everyone from Stevie Wonder to Marvin Gaye. To find out more about him and check out songs and videos, visit www.johnlegend.com.

The first trip, to see the Killers & Keane at Merriweather Post Pavilion this past Wed., was completely sold out and this trip will sell out too, so don't wait until the last second to get your ticket. Capacity is limited to 40 people and tickets are going fast. For full trip details and to purchase your tickets via our secure online store, visit www.ontaponline.com/store.

PR Nation

– Washington’s newest public relations social group (and the old Washington PR Meetup Group), is having another meeting! Where? When? Why?

This month’s topic: How We Love To Be Humiliated, Yelled At And Hung Up On… or Pitching Hell. Come share your pitching stories, the good, the bad or the ugly and what you’ve learned from your experiences with the group. We hope to have print, radio and television pitching stories to share, and we’ve found the perfect relaxed location to do just that:

Penang. It’s a gorgeous little Asian resto/bar sitting above the corner of 19th and M NW. We’ve got a 5:30 reservation for the lounge, and we’re hard to miss. Bring your friends, your boss, your co-workers, your intern(s) or just someone you want to impress by having the most horrific pitching stories! And remember: we’re a new group out to have fun, learn from each other, and meet new folks who can make us look like we’re doing a great job to our clients/bosses. Participation at these early events really helps everyone out.

Penang, 5:30 – Next Tuesday, June 14th, 2005
1837 M St., NW
Washington, DC

Metro stop closest: Dupont South on the Red line

Ipod DJ Tonight!!!

iPod Jukebox -- An MP3 DJ Night
(As seen in The Washington Post and USA Today)

If you have an MP3 player, you are invited to DJ at Cafe Saint-Ex on June 8.

On the second Wednesday of every month, The Cricklewood Massive presents "iPod Jukebox," an open-decks DJ night that replaces the turntables with portable MP3 players. No vinyl. No CDs. No kidding.

The format is simple: Aspiring MP3Js sign up for a timeslot. When it's your turn, you plug your iPod (or other portable MP3 device) into the bar's sound system and play whatever you want for up to 12 minutes. (Participants need to bring their own music, as a "house" iPod is not available.) This is intended to be a night where everyone can show off their favorite gems from their own record collection, whether a hot new underground band or an old-school Madonna tune.

iPod Jukebox debuted at Arlington's Galaxy Hut in April 2004, drawing more than a dozen MP3Js and a rave review from Washington Post technology columnist Rob Pegoraro. It moved to Cafe Saint-Ex's Gate 54 Lounge in June, attracting an even larger crowd, and became a regular event on the bar's schedule.

iPod Jukebox usually runs from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., although MP3Js can arrive earlier to sign up for a timeslot. Admission is free.

Cafe Saint-Ex is located at 1847 14th St. NW, on the corner of 14th and T. The closest Metro station is U Street/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo. Call 202-265-7839 for directions. E-mail The Cricklewood Massive for more information about the event, or visit ipodjukebox.com.

Frequently Asked Questions about iPod Jukebox:

Can anyone really DJ?

Yes. Just sign up at the DJ booth.

What do I need to participate?

An iPod, or any other portable MP3 player. (No laptops, sorry.) We provide the DJ set-up, including a mixer and iPod dock(s).

Is this really an iPod-only night? Can I bring an iRiver?

Sure. Any portable MP3 player with a 1/8" output jack is welcome, including those made by iRiver, Rio, Dell or Creative Labs. We're simply calling this iPod Jukebox because we (and many of our friends) have iPods, and we love them.

How does iPod Jukebox work? Can I sign up by e-mail?

You cannot put your name down for iPod Jukebox in advance; you have to show up at Cafe Saint-Ex and sign up on the night. This is done on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning sometime after 8:30. (Look for the list near the DJ booth.) MP3Js play in the order in which they sign up; you cannot request a set at a specific time (i.e. 9:30 or 11).

Why only 12 minutes?

We have short attention spans, and 12 minutes seemed like a good time limit. It gives more people a chance to participate, and the restriction keeps practical jokers from playing, say, The Liars' 30-minute epic "This Dust Makes That Mud" and clearing the room.
